Azunosa’s Sugar Sustainability Journey

Azunosa became the first sugar processing mill to achieve Bonsucro certification in Central America—a big win for local communities and hundreds of species of native birds, fish, turtles and other wildlife that rely on the Mesoamerican Reef.

Azunosa is one part of a global supply chain that is moving towards sustainability that includes SAB Miller (who owns both the sugar mill and the local Coca-Cola bottler) and The Coca-Cola Company. The Coca-Cola Company has committed to bold set of 2020 Sustainability Goals. Coca-Cola’s approach to sustainable agriculture is founded on principles that protect the environment, uphold workplace rights and help build more sustainable communities. They are addressing the challenges of agriculture availability, quality and safety while also helping to improve livelihoods and the well-being of farming communities. The Coca-Cola Company is partnering with World Wildlife Fund to protect freshwater resources in the region and beyond.
