CHARLES J. KATZ JR. was executive vice president of Opsware, Inc., a software company, and senior partner at the Seattle-based law firm Perkins Coie, where he specialized in corporate finance transactions. Katz has lectured on venture capital at Stanford Law School and was recognized in The Best Lawyers in America for corporate law. He currently serves on the board of advisors of the Natural Capital Project, based at Stanford University, and was on the board of advisors of Stanford’s Woods Institute for the Environment and the School of Earth Sciences. He is a former director of REI, the specialty outdoor retailer; the Student Conservation Association; The Nature Conservancy of Washington; the Seattle Art Museum; the Henry Art Gallery of the University of Washington; and the Seattle regional board of the Anti-Defamation League. He is currently involved in private investments and family foundation activities. Katz is an accomplished photographer whose work includes The Power of Trees and One Tree (with text by Gretchen C. Daily), Annapurna Sanctuary (published with WWF), Waymarks: Photographs from a Walk Across England, and Erratics (published by Whitman College). He received a bachelor’s degree from Stanford University, a master’s degree from New York University, and a law degree from the University of Texas.
