GORDON ORIANS is a professor emeritus of biology at the University of Washington, where he has been since 1960. An ecologist with experience in Central and South America, East Africa, Australia, and the Pacific Northwest, Gordon has been involved on the WWF Board of Directors since 1990, and currently serves as a director emeritus. An investigator in the fields of ecology, evolutionary biology, and animal behavior, he is the author of many publications, including a widely used biology textbook. Orians is a member of the National Academy of Sciences and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and is past chairman of the Board on Environmental Studies and Toxicology of the National Research Council. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin and received a PhD from the University of California, Berkeley.
