JOHN SALL is executive vice president and cofounder of SAS Institute, the leader in business analytics software and services. He heads the JMP division and is the chief architect of JMP software, which combines sophisticated statistical analysis with visual representations for dynamic data exploration. Sall received a bachelor’s degree in history from Beloit College and a master’s degree in economics from Northern Illinois University. He studied graduate-level statistics at North Carolina State University, where the SAS project started. He served as member of the NCSU Board of Trustees from 2007-2015. He also served for nine years on the board of directors of the Nature Conservancy. In 1997, Sall and his wife, Ginger, contributed to the founding of Cary Academy, an independent college preparatory day school. He is on the advisory board of the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History. He was named a Fellow of the American Statistical Association and a Fellow of AAAS, and is a n elected member of the International Statistical Institute. Sall has been awarded honorary doctorates from both NCSU and NIU.
